Jeffrey Dean Morganhas been a lot of things in his career, but one thing he won’t beis the leading man in his upcoming horror comedy,Bloody Axe Wound, and for good reason. Morgan appears in the film in a supporting role as Butch Slater alongside stars Sari Arambulo and Billy Burke. The movie focuses on Arambulo’s character of Abbie Bladecut as she follows in the footsteps of her serial killer father (Burke) to become the first female slasher villain in the family, and based on the trailer seen below, it looks like a lot of fun.
Produced by both Morgan and his wife, Hilarie Burton,Bloody Axe Woundopens in theaters today, and whenScreen Rantrecently caught up with Burton to discuss Morgan’s part in the movie, she revealed that he decided not to give himself the starring role as Abbie’s father, Roger Bladecut, because he was worried it might be a conflict of interest for himto be both a producer and a leading man. She also mentioned that his commitment to filmingthe upcoming season ofThe Walking Dead: Dead Cityalso may have played a factor in him stepping back a bit when it came toBloody Axe Wound, but in the end, it all worked out thanks to Burke.

“I think Jeff worried about a conflict of interest, a little bit, in producing this, but also having it be a vehicle for himself. And he was also filming Dead City and a couple of other projects at the time, so we were looking externally for Bladecut. And Billy spent Thanksgiving here with his family, and we’re all just sitting around the couch, shooting the s–t, and we’re like, ‘Do you want to see this movie, Uncle Peckerhead? It’s weird. You’re gonna like it.’ He watches the movie, and he’s like, ‘Send me that Bladecut script, send me that thing.’
“So, we sent it to him, and Billy was just like, ‘This is mine now. It’s mine.’ And honestly, there’s no one on the planet who could have played it better than Billy. We would have asked him if it didn’t feel like such a huge favor to be like, ‘Well, will you move cross country and also come stay here for three weeks and be in makeup for six hours every day?’ It’s a big ask of your friend, and Billy just crushed it. He’s so good.”

Bloody Axe Woundaside, Morgan is set to return as Negan in the upcoming second season ofThe Walking Dead: Dead City, which reunites him with co-star Lauren Cohan as the pair continue to navigate the zombie apocalypse in Manhattan. Set to premiere in spring 2025, therecently released teaser trailerhas us asking all kinds of questions about the evolution of his character, including whether he’ll backslide into his old ways.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan Reveals Which The Boys Character is the ‘Single Greatest’ in Television
The Boys' Jeffrey Dean Morgan has revealed which of the shows characters he wants to share a scene with in Season 5 - and it would make fans happy.
If you’ll recall, Negan started out as the ruthless leader of the Saviors inThe Walking Deadbefore redeeming himself in a number of ways by helping out Maggie, Michonne, and others and later getting married. The teaser forDead CitySeason 2 features him wielding a new barbed wire bat akin to Lucille and seemingly taking command of a new group of survivors. Does this mean the old Negan is back? To be honest, he was never really gone, but he definitely looks to be cementing his anti-hero status next season, which we can’t wait to see.
