After weeks of silence on the nextFast & Furiousmovie, and with a lot of uncertainty around the next – and supposedly final – installment of the high-octane franchise,Vin Dieselfinally seems to have given fans some good news. While there have been no official announcements made by Universal, Diesel shared both a major cast member return and a potential release window for the upcomingFast and Furious 11.
Diesel made an appearance on Saturday at car enthusiast event Fuel Fest alongside hisFastco-stars Cody Walker and Tyrese Gibson, during which he revealed that the studio had asked him about getting the next movie made by April 2027. Relaying his conditions for making this happen, he said:

“The studio said to me, ‘Vin, can we please have the finale of ‘Fast and Furious’ [in] April 2027?'” Diesel said. “I said, ‘Under three conditions.’ First, is to bring the franchise back to L.A.! The second thing was to return to the car culture, to the street racing! The third thing was reuniting Dom and Brian O’Conner.”
‘Fast & Furious’ Star Wants ‘Fast 11’ to Deliver What Most Fans Want Too
Things have been getting a little out of control with the ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise. Is it time to bring it home in the way it began?
Naturally, this raises several questions consideringPaul Walker, who played Brian O’Conner, tragically passed away in 2013 at the age of 40. Whether Diesel wants to use archive footage or CGI replacement of some kind to bring Walker back to screens is unclear, but Diesel has previously suggested that he wanted to see his character and that of Walker’s to be reunited in some way before the franchise ends.

Is ‘Fast 11’ Going Back to Basics?
WhenThe Fast and the Furiouswas released back in 2001, the movie was a simple story about street racing, family, and more street racing. Then something happened, and it became about space, mad chases across ice planes, andJason Momoa as an over-the-top pantomime villain. However, Diesel has aired his grievance about what the franchise has become, and several months ago shared an online post saying that if Universal wanted another movie, thenhe was going to make sure it was a movie that went back to basics. Back in November 2024, he said:
“I got universal in one ear saying we need FastX2 by March 2026! I have Concast in the other ear saying we need two movies to be the Finale! Then the writer on Fast Five sent me this image and said we need to see DOM and HOBBS resolve their differences. I just want to get back to real street racing, practical stunts… and a reunion of that beautiful brotherhood. Happy Thanksgiving…”

Now it looks like Diesel may be getting his way and bringing the franchise back to where it all began. However, withFast Xhaving teased the return of Dwayne Johnson as Luke Hobbs and a potential spinoff that would see him facing off with Momoa’s villain Reyes, exactly where all of this leaves that story is unclear. It is certainly possible that both movies will be made independently of each other. The question whether Universal has enough faith in the franchise delivering at the box office is a much harder one to answer.
