Among the ever-growing popularity of fantasy television series adapted from book series,The Wheel of Timehas caught the attention of many who consider themselves fans of the genre. Released in 2021, the series is making a highly anticipated comeback with season 2, soon to be released on Prime Video in a three-episode premiere on September 1. Based on the fourteen-part book series by Robert Jordan, the secondseason is set to follow bookstwo and three of the series. Fans of the series are already speculating about what will happen in season 2 since it has already diverged from its source material in the first installment of the series.
But before we dive into the fan theories for season 2, let’s quickly recap what happened in the first season and where we left off in the story. Moiraine, a powerful Aes Sedai, set out to find the Dragon Reborn in order to defeat the Dark One but ended up finding five ta’veren, all from the same village and all who have demonstrated abilities to access the One Power in some form or another.

Rand, Egwene, Nynaeve, Perrin, and Mat are all connected, although we don’t yet know how exactly we can certainly expect that we will find out in season 2. And as it turns out, Rand is the reincarnation of the Dragon and faces the Dark One in the season finale, but instead of defeating him,the Dark One is set free, and now Rand is determined to set off on his own, leaving Moiraine powerless after the Dark One took away her ability to channel. And on that happy note, let’s take a look at what fans think will happen in season 2.
Introduction of a Major Character In Season 2
In the book series, a character named Elyas Machera is an integral part of Perrin’s story. In fact, according to the books, Elyas introduces the Wolfbrother concept and helps Perrin understand his connection to the wolves. However, Elyas should have already appeared in the first season after Perrin and Egwene became separated from the group after Shadar Logoth. Despite this, it seems that Elyas will debut in season 2 with Gary Beadle playing the role. This makes fans question what role he will serve in the second season since he didn’t appear again until the end of the series.
Fans have speculated thatElyas may replace another characterin the second season. Of course, Elyas will still be able to serve his original purpose since Perrin has yet to fully explore and understand his ability. Elyas will be able to guide him and provide an explanation, but fans believe that Elyas may also be replacing the character Hurin from the second book. During his search for Padan Fain, Perrin meets Hurin, who joins Perrin on his journey and helps him track Fain. However, if Elyas is introduced later in the series, it is possible that he may replace Hurin and join Perrin on his journey instead.

How Are the Five Connected?
In the trailer for the second season, it seems that many of our main characters have gone their separate ways, with Rand disappearing after his encounter with the Dark One to grow his powers and understand what it means to be the Dragon. Since both Egwene and Nynaeve have demonstrated abilities to channel the One Power, they will be taught by the Aes Sedai.
And as mentioned previously, Perrin is on a mission to chase down Padan Fain. As for Mat, it seems that he will continue to be tempted by dark magic, especially after taking the dagger from Shadar Logoth. With the five on their own journeys, fans who haven’t read the books are likely wondering how they are all connected and what will happen when they all come together again.

One possible theory is that each character represents a spoke in the wheel of time, with Rand being the “water that moves the wheel itself,” as Siaun says inthe official trailer. Meaning that even though they each have demonstrated great power on their own, they are more powerful together. With their destinies intertwined, it makes sense that they belong together, and although they are on their own journeys, they haven’t seen the last of each other, and fate will bring them back together when the time is right.

What Villains Will Our Heroes Face?
During the finale, we geta sneak peek at a new villainthat has not yet been part of the story that many fans believe will play a much more significant role in the upcoming season. The trailer confirms as much, and this new enemy is the Seanchan Empire, who enslave girls who have the ability to channel. They make their debut appearing on a ship with the enslaved women using their magic to create a tidal wave that comes crashing over the beach. Only those who have read the books know what they want and why they’ve come, but for those who haven’t, we are left to ponder their motives.
Then, of course, there are the Red Aes Sedai (specifically Liandrin), who seems to be up to something nefarious. This was hinted at throughout the first season, and although we don’t know what she is up to yet, fans have their theories. It may be that Liandrin knows of Moraine’s intimate relationship with Siuan, or perhaps she believes that the Red Ajah should be the ones in power and plan to overthrow Siuan, or maybe her hatred of men and desire to strip them of their abilities to channel extends to the Dragon, and she plans to hunt down Rand.
The Dark One, the Trollocs, and the Fades will be returning next season since these are our main antagonists. However, fans are eager to learn more about the Dark One’s past and history. And with multiple threats facing our heroes, we know for certain that season 2 willnot be lacking in action.
