DC Comicsannounced today that actorKeiynan Lonsdale(The Divergent Series: Insurgent) has signed on to play the beloved comic book characterWally WestinThe Flash. In the comics, Wally is the nephew of Iris West, played by Candice Patton in the series. He eventually turns into the character known as Kid Flash, after an accident that is reminiscent of how Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) gets his powers. Here’s what executive producerAndrew Kreisberghad to say about the casting.
“Just like when we metGrant (Gustin)for the first time, we instantly knew Keiynan embodied all the heart and courage of a hero. We are so excited to be bringing this much-beloved character onto the show.”
Wally’s arrival was teased byAndrew Kreisbergback in March, where he revealed that the character would be introduced inSeason 2. DC revealed thatKeiynan Lonsdalewill be a series regular inThe Flash Season 2, although they wouldn’t go so far as to confirm whether or not Wally will become Kid Flash quite yet. Wally West is just the latest of severalDC Comicscharacters who have already been confirmed forSeason 2.
Teddy Searshas been confirmed to playJay Garrick, the original Flash, while Shantel VanSanten is coming aboard as Patty Spivot, a new addition to the Central City Police Department who teams up with Joe West (Jesse L. Martin). She is said to be obsessed with meta-humans and has a crush on Barry Allen (Grant Gustin), unaware that he is actuallyThe Flash.Michael Ironsidewas also cast last month as Lewis Snart, the father of Lenoard Snart, a.k.a. Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) and his sister Lisa, a.k.a. Golden Glider (Peyton List).
Season 2will also explore more of the multiverse, which was teased at the end ofSeason 1, when Harrison Wells/Reverse Flash(Tom Cavanagh) was sent into another dimension. The cast and producers confirmed during theirComic-Conpanel that Zoom will be the primary villain this season, although the character has yet to be cast. Barry will also work with a new mentor and receive new lightning powers. After debuting inSeason 1, the monstrous Gorilla Grodd will also be back forSeason 2.
Keiynan Lonsdalemost recently starred inThe Divergent Series: Insurgentas Uriah, a role which he’ll play again inThe Divergent Series: Allegiant: Part 1, which hits theaters next March. The young actor also stars in the true-story dramaThe Finest Hours, alongsideChris PineandCasey Affleck, which debuts in theaters this coming January.
