Maelle is a balancedcharacter in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. She’s capable of defense, disruption and dealing damage when the moment’s right, so the weapon inClair Obscur: Expedition 33you choose for her should match that rhythm. Some make her better at breaking enemy guards, others help her recover faster or hit harder without stepping out of line.
8 Best Weapons for Gustave in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Some of Gustave’s weapons are easy to grab. Others take a little work. But each adds something useful, whether it’s better scaling, or Perfection gain
In this article we’ll break down some weapons that stand out for Maelle, not because they’re overpowered, but because they have a way of sharpening what she already does well. We’ll talk about how you get each weapon, what makes them worth using and how their passives kick in as they level up.

Element: Fire
Brulerumis Maelle’s signature weapon and it fits her like a glove if you’re building around Agility and Luck. This is a fire-based weapon, and at level 4, any time Maelle lands a critical hit, it automatically applies Burn. That’s a nice bonus, especially since her build naturally leans into crits.
The big shift happens at level 20. Brulerum gives Maelle a 100% critical hit chance while she’s not using any stance. To get your hands on the Brulerum, you can farm Bruler enemies near Noco’s Hut in the Flying Waters region, sometimes they’ll drop Brulerum. If they don’t, you can buy it from a Bruler blacksmith in the Coastal Cave for 15,725 Chroma.

Element: Physical
Medalumgives Maelle a head start by automatically putting her into Virtuose Stance at the beginning of every battle. That’s one less thing to think about and lets you go straight into your combos. When you push it to level 10, things start to burn.
Review: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a turn-based RPG that pushes the technical aspect of modern hardware to its limits.
While she’s in the Virtuose stance, any Burn effect she applies gets doubled. This doesn’t mean she’s dealing double fire damage in general; just the Burn effect, which stacks up over time. It makes every dot of damage count more. You can grab the Medalum by taking Maelle through theGestral Village arena. It’s a series ofone-on-one fights, and if she beats the final opponent, called “The Stranger,” you’ll get Medalum as a reward.

6Barrier Breaker
Element: Void
For a good weapon, it’s surprisingly cool that you don’t have to search for or buy theBarrier Breaker. The game just hands it to Maelle in Act II. When Maelle smacks an enemy with it, she strips away their shield and instantly takes it for herself.
Having the Barrier Breaker is like playing attack and defense at the same time. The moment Maelle lands a hit, she weakens the enemies and strengthens herself in the same move. That said, the the weapon’s scaling leans on Defense and Agility, which is a less common combo for Maelle, but works if you want her sturdier and still fast on her feet.

Instead of charging in and dishing out straight-up damage,Jarumis all about counters and calculated retaliation. You get it after defeating the Chromatic Jar, a boss you’ll find near the White Tree. But you can’t just walk there on a whim. You’ll need access to Esquie and the ability to swim before the area even opens up.
Where to Find Jar’s Light in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
The first friendly, or at least neutral, Nevron has a request for our cast of characters.
With Jarum, every time Maelle lands a successful counter, she automatically shifts into Virtuose Stance. This smooth stance change lets her keep up the pace while staying defensive.

WithSekarum, Maelle is ready to deal over 200% damage the second her target drops their guard. By level 10, her Free Aim shots now break two shields instead of one. That makes a big difference when you’re up against tougher enemies that layer up defenses. With this upgrade, she doesn’t just chip away, she bulldozes through enemies.
For Sekarum to be yours, you have to beat Eesda, the Gestral Merchant in Gestral Village. Once she’s down, you’ll be able to buy Sekarum for 4,830 Chroma. I know it’s pricey, but a weapon worth paying for if you like breaking shields.
Element: Ice
Every time Maelle scores a critical hit, she heals for 2% of her health, thanks toColdum. In longer fights, that tiny bump adds up fast, especially when you play around crits instead of just waiting for them. At level 20, if Maelle attacks without being in any stance, her next base attack automatically switches her into Defensive Stance.
This means you don’t have to constantly manage switching stances manually. Coldum helps keep her in the most protective stance. To get Coldum you have to first take down the Gargant in the Frozen Hearts region. After that, you’ll pick up an item called Eternal Ice. Bring that back to the Grandis Merchant at Monoco’s Station and only then will Coldum show up in the store for purchase.
Melarumleans into Maelle’s more supportive side. The weapon scales with Vitality and Luck, so it’s clearly designed for someone who isn’t just standing there taking hits. Every time Maelle switches into Virtuose Stance, it triggers a team-wide heal. Everyone gets back 20% of their max HP.
At level 10, if Maelle’s health stays above 80%, she gains Shell automatically. That cuts down the damage she takes, but only while she’s healthy. So now it becomes a game of keeping her topped up, not just for her own survival, but to keep that Shell effect active.
Element: Earth
Tissenumdoesn’t try to turn Maelle into something she’s not. It leans into her ability to break enemies apart without putting herself in danger. When it hits level 4, if Maelle is standing in Defensive Stance, her Break damage gets doubled. That means she doesn’t need to be reckless to help control the fight.
She can stay protected and still tear through enemy defenses faster than expected. You don’t need to push her into risky plays just to keep up the pressure. At level 10, every time you successfully break an enemy, Maelle gets 9 AP back.
