Playing throughOblivion Remasteredhas been an absolute delight. The world of Cyrodiil has arguably never looked better, and Bethesda and co-developer Virtuos have done an excellent job of capturing the magic and jank of the original while bringing the game into the modern era.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered Surpasses 4 Million Players

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered has become a resounding success, attracting almost 5 million players in under a week—and the numbers keep rising.

One thing that hasn’t made that jump, though, is some quality-of-life updates and improvements to the overall experience. I love Oblivion to death, but there are some things that exist in Skyrim that I’m missing. Take, for example, Smithing. While some people don’t miss the popular Skyrim feature, others, like myself, enjoyed it as a supplement to finding gear in the open world.

It turns out that we’re not alone, and a modder has decided to introduce the feature into the game.

A Modder Has Added Smithing to Oblivion Remastered

ColdTyrant, who has been very busy working on mods forOblivion Remastered, has introduced a new one:Skill Line - Smithing. This introduces the popular feature to Oblivion, allowing players to interact with crafting workbenches throughout Cyrodiil’s major cities and the Shivering Isles.

Here’s a basic summary of how it works. Every Smithing area will have a Smithing Chest where you can store all of the items you need. From there, you can access the Smithing Anvil, where you’ll choose which armor or weapon you want to craft to level up your Smithing skill. If you’re looking for easy access to materials, the Equipment Smelter is what you need. It lets you melt down all unenchanted Vanilla Armor and Weapons (except the Imperial Legion Armor). Finally, the Leather Rack will let you break down all Vanilla Animal Hides and “certain monster skins” into Leather.

Do note that the Equipment Smelter and Leather Rack will check their specific workstations' Smithing Chests for materials to melt down or tan.

It will be interesting to see how the modding community continues to enhance the Oblivion Remastered experience. It’s already a fantastic game on its own, but with these mods, it continues to become something better.
