Netflix has debuted new images from its first English-languagemedical procedural showand set a premiere date of Apr. 3.Pulsefollows a team of doctors at the busiest Level 1 Trauma Center in Miami. The show was created byZoe Robyn(Hawaii Five-0, The Equalizer) and both she and Carlton Cuse (Lost, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan) are the co-showrunners and co-executive producers. The official plot reads:
“As a hurricane barrels towards Miami’s busiest Level 1 Trauma Center, third-year resident Dr. Danny Simms (Willa Fitzgerald) is unexpectedly thrust into a promotion when beloved Chief Resident Dr. Xander Phillips (Colin Woodell) is suspended. Amid the worsening storm and an onslaught of trauma cases, the hospital goes into lockdown, and Danny and Phillips must find a way to work together – even as the bombshell details of a complicated and illicit romance between them begin to spill out. The rest of the ER is left to process the fallout of their relationship while balancing their own challenges, both personal and professional, as they work under the pressure of life-or-death stakes. Because for this tight-knit group of doctors, saving their patients’ lives is often less complicated than living their own.”
Along with Fitzgerald and Woodell onPulse, other actors who are part of the cast include Justina Machado, Jack Bannon, Jessie T. Usher, Chelsea Muirhead, Jessy Yates, Daniela Nievesl, Néstor Carbonell, Ash Santos, Jessica Rothe, Santiago Segura, and Arturo Del Puerto.
The first episode really hits the ground running withthe hospital going into lockdown due to the incoming hurricane. Expect plenty of drama considering the tension between Simms and Phillips. Robyn explained the dynamic of the two main characters toTudum by Netflix:
“We always endeavored to make Danny and Phillips’ relationship a real, authentic look at a workplace romance. We really wanted to play in the gray area of that situation. Pulse shows the edges and pitfalls of their relationship — but also all the joyous moments of working a high-pressure job like this.”
“Danny’s not as complicated as she looks.She’s even more complicated,” said Cuse. “Phillips is from a very patrician medical family and trying to find his own way in the world.He’s really trying to individuate and figure out how to make his mark. That quest guides him both in medicine and in his personal life.”
