It has been years since anything Silent Hill has been available for fans. With the announced SILENT HILL Transmission within the last week, this had many fans speculating. Today, the showcased released and SILENT HILL 2 is being remade. This is only one of five Silent Hill announcements during the video. SILENT HILL 2 will be developed by Bloober Team, who handled The Medium when this console generation launched. To add to the latest news, the remake of Silent Hill 2 is a PlayStation 5 console exclusive. It will also be available on PC and it is exclusive to these two platforms for the first year, once released. Both Akira Yamaoka and Mashiro Ito will be working with Bloober on the project.
Konami is doubling down with the announcement with a brand new game in addition to the remake. SILENT HILL Townfall is the latest addition to the franchise and is a co-production with Annapurna Interactive (Stray, Outer Wilds, Neon White) and No Code Studios (Stories Untold, Observation). There was a teaser trailer revealed during the showcase, but no other information has been provided. Konami is also going a bit of a different route with SILENT HILL f, which is a completely new story set in 1960’s Japan. This will have a different art designed as it is quoted as being “beautiful, yet horrifying.” This will be written by Ryukishi07, who is a famed Japanese visual novel dealing with murder mysteries, psychological and supernatural horror, so this looks to coincide well with the Silent Hill series.
The latest SILENT HILL movie, Return to SILENT HILL, was announced and featured through the later half of the video. This includes story boards and the direction with the latest movie. It will see the return of the director and producer of the original movie, Christophe Gans. There is also a community-driven Silent Hill event known as SILENT HILL Ascension, which will be a brand new and interactive story that includes involvement from J. J. Abrams. The story will be in the hands of the audience as the narrative unfold as it will be available on multiple platforms. Bad Robot Games will be involved in the project along with Genvid Entertainment, Behaviour Interactive and dj2 Entertainment.
