I don’t know about you, but if there is one thing on this great green Earth that scares the hell out of me it’s… snakes! But spiders are pretty creepy too. And if you’re left running for the door by classic movies such asArachnophobiaandKingdom of the Spidersthen you’re really going to want to go ahead and find another article to read today as the poster and, especially, the trailer forItsy Bitsyis bound to give even spider-lovers a solid dose of the heeby-jeebies.
Personally, I think the filmmakers behind this movie have managed to nail how to make a perfect spider-nightmare on-screen. I mean movies such as the above-mentionedArachnophobiaare fun as hell, but a bunch of small spiders running around is only so scary to this guy. Then on the other end of the spectrum, we have movies such as the aptly titledBig-Ass Spiderwhere the spider in question is far too big to be scary. ButItsy Bitsyhas found the most nightmare-inducing middle ground that makes my skin crawl with itsgiant spiders. In fact, as I’m typing this out I’m on the edge of my seat thinking I’m about to feel one of this guy’s legs on my ankle and it’s freaking me out.
The film follows a private nurse and single mother named Kara who moves her two children, 13-year-old Jesse, and 8-year-old Cambria from the big city to a secluded mansion in the quiet countryside to live with and take care of an elderly man with multiple sclerosis. Things seem normal enough until Jesse discovers amysterious old relicin the old man’s house, leading to unexpected and horrifying things coming to life. Meaning of course that the family soon find themselves being targeted by an ancient entity taking the form of a giant spider. Doesn’t make much sense, huh? Well, nightmares rarely do, now do they?
