Disney purchased all of Lucasfilm fromGeorge Lucasback in 2012 for more than $4 billion. While they have maintained respect publically for the creator ofStar Wars, he has had little involvement in the new movies. At least as far as we know. It turns out that he actually had some influence on directorGareth Edwardsand the upcomingRogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Gareth Edwardsrecently spoke toGames Radar/Total Filmabout the upcomingStar Warsspinoff movie.George Lucaspaid a little visit to the set and during that visit, the creator of agalaxy far far awaysaw some things that he liked, but weren’t going to make it into the movie. The opinion ofGeorge Lucaschanged that. Here is whatGareth Edwardshad to say.

“Whatever [Lucas] liked was pretty much guaranteed to be in the film.”

There was a particular item thatGeorge Lucaspointed out while looking at the design department. According toGareth Edwards, it was “a helmet we loved but didn’t know where to put it; there wasn’t really an opportunity to use it.” But whenGeorge Lucaswalked past it and said “‘That’s cool, I like that,'” things changed. The helmet made it into the movie. Apparently, this happened with other things as well, since the director said anything he liked made it intoRogue One.

There weren’t a lot of details divulged about this mysterious helmet, but it definitely seems like it will be some kind of Easter egg forStar Warsfans. Recently, a behind-the-scenes video was released that showed just how closely elements ofRogue Onewill mirrorStar Wars: A New Hope. The movies take place very close to one another, so there will surely be some similarities and some fun Easter eggs. Apparently, we will haveGeorge Lucasto thank for at least some of them.

Even afterGeorge Lucassold Lucasfilm to Disney, he still wanted to have some of his ideas included in the franchise. He reportedly commissioned a script forStar Wars: The Force Awakens, but Disney rejected it entirely in favor of whatJ.J. Abramsultimately did. The Last thingGeorge Lucasdid for thefranchisewas direct the threeStar Warsprequels, which didn’t make nearly as much at the box office asStar Wars: The Force Awakensand they surely weren’t as well received. ButRogue One: A Star Wars Storyis a technically a prequel, andGeorge Lucashas made his mark on it.
