WhileAvatarintroduced us to the beautiful world of Pandora and a struggle between the Omatikayan people and invading human forces,Avatar: The Way of Waterexpands further by introducing us to a new tribe, the Metkayina. So far, however, the Na’vi people have been portrayed in a positive light, while the RDA troops have been represented antagonistically. James Cameron, the Avatar franchise’s creator, claims that the Ash People, a malicious Fire tribe, will unleash chaos inAvatar 3. Cameron gave his take on the matter toVariety. Here’s how he put it.
“In the early films, there are very negative human examples and very positive Na’vi examples. In ‘Avatar 3,’ we will do the opposite. Just like you’re defined by the choices you make in life, not all humans are bad. Not all Na’vi are good. And that’s the case here on Earth. And we want to expose Neytiri to that.”
The creator has already stated that the new tribe, which will symbolize Pandora’s dark side, will beintroduced inAvatar 3. This, however, raises another question for the fans. How could the new Fire Na’vi tribe be introduced inAvatar 3? There’s room for a lot of speculation, but here are the few we’ve come up with while keepingJames Cameron’s approachin mind.
A Civil War Between Clans
Following the events of the firstAvatarfilm, Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) permanently transferred his consciousness into a Na’vi avatar with the help of the Tree of Souls, allowing him to lead the Omatikayan tribe. Due to his recent history of fighting alongside the Metkayina tribe inAvatar: The Way of Water, he has become well-known on Pandora. His fame will eventually reach the other tribes, even the Fire Na’vi. Jake Sully may have given up everything to protect Pandora from humans, but he still has one key characteristic that distinguishes him from the Na’vi.

His avatar has undergone a natural alteration as a result of genetic mutation, but it still retains human DNA, and unlike Na’vi on Pandora, who only have four fingers, Jake has five, clearly separating him from others. Since the people of Pandora have long referred to humans as “demon blood” for attempting to destroy their world deliberately, he would be viewed as a traitor by other clans.
Given how the Fire Na’vi tribe can be evil, as mentioned by James Cameron in interviews, they would consider both the Omatikayan and Metkayina tribes as traitors for sheltering Jake Sully and his children. This new plot line could result in a civil war among the clans, while the Fire Na’vi tribe pulls the strings to get rid of these presumed traitors. It makes sense because seeing RDA forces as antagonists again inAvatar 3may lead to repetition, which fans would find unpleasant.
Eternal Enemies of All Tribes
While the first approach appears more realistic because it represents Pandora’s way of life and the loyalty of its inhabitants, the Fire Na’vi tribe inAvatar 3could be ruthless. As James Cameron stated, Neytiri’s perspective will change after witnessing how the Fire Na’vi tribe operates. Some fans speculate that the Fire tribe may have established their homes near volcanic regions, which is why they are known as the Ash People.

Since we haven’t explored much of the otherclans of Pandoraso far, a brief history of them, with the Fire Na’vi tribe at the center, might suffice. Given that all the clans live in harmony with Eywa, it stands to reason that the Fire tribe would seek dominance over Pandora, disregarding traditions and trying to reign as tyrants.Avatar 3may go back into history and show how the Fire Na’vi people waged war on all the clans and were ultimately defeated. Introducing them as the eternal enemies of all clans would provide Jake Sully and other tribes with two enemies instead of one in the upcoming film, making it significantly more exciting.
The Ash Clan Joins Forces with RDA
This may appear a bit unreasonable, but imagine if the Fire Na’vi tribe didn’t care about Pandora’s life and sought pure domination by slaughtering innocent tribes throughout their existence. Since we’ve previously identified them as eternal enemies, their joining up with RDA forces wouldn’t be a bad assumption. If their plan to overthrow all the clans occupying the regions of Pandora succeeds, they may hope to eliminate human allies.
While this theory is unlikely to come true, we can’t rule out the possibility that Cameron has plans that differ from those of fans. RDA forces would form the alliance if they learned of the history between the other clans and the Fire Na’vi, and it would seem like a move humans would make from a political perspective.
There’s a lot to speculate about inAvatar 3, with a lot of emphasis on the Fire Na’vi tribe,Colonel Quaritch’s redemption, Spider’s future role, and how General Ardmore (Edie Falco), the commander of human settlement on Pandora, would handle things from here on out. Seeing as thatAvatar 3is expected to be released on July 13, 2025, it will be some time before any of the aforementioned predictions come true.
