The CW’sSupergirlis bringing a new villain to National City, withKevin Sorbo(Hercules: The Legendary Journeys) signing on for a recurring role as an unidentified new villain. This report comes just days afterTeri Hatchersigned on for another unspecified villain role in a multi-episode arc. It remains to be seen if these characters are connected to one another, or when each of their characters will make their debuts on The CW series. In related news, we also have word on when the villainous Mister Mxyzptlk will be showing up on the series.
Deadlinebroke the casting news about Kevin Sorbo, but they don’t have any further details about the character, including if he’s a human character or an alien. It also isn’t known if this character has any connection to the DC Comics, or if it’s a new character being created solely for the show. Given how many notable and iconic DC characters have surfaced on the series, it seems likely thatKevin Sorbo’s villainous character does in fact have some roots in theDC Comcis. The CW has also released an official synopsis for their February 20 episode,Mr. & Mrs. Mxyzptlk, which is when the title character will make his debut on the show. Last month, a set photo surfaced that offered our first look atMr. Mxyzptlk, who will be played byPeter Gadiot, and now we know when he’ll be debuting. Even though it debuts a week after Valentine’s Day, it seems this will be the show’s Valentine’s episode. Here’s the official synopsis below.
“When Mr. Mxyzptlk (guest starPeter Gadiot), a magical imp, shows up on Earth and declares his love for Kara (Melissa Benoist), she tries to let him down easy, thinking him harmless. However, he decides it’s a challenge and starts to wreak havoc on National City. Mon-El (Chris Wood) has seen beings like Mr. Mxyzptlk on Daxam and knows how dangerous they can be. He and Kara argue over how to get rid of Mr. Mxyzptlk, further straining their relationship. Meanwhile, Alex (Chyler Leigh) and Maggie (Floriana Lima) celebrate their first Valentine’s Day together.”
Mister Mxyzptlk is an imp from the 5th dimension, and he usually arrives to give Superman a hard time. Mister Mxyzptlk has never been considered one of Superman’s more dangerous foes. He’s usually shown as being more of a nuisance. He doesn’t care if people get hurt when he pulls his dastardly pranks though. One time, he even made a Doomsday clone, which didn’t work out well for anyone involved. His weapon of choice is usually some kind of elaborate brain game. He appears to have magical powers, but he’s actually just using technology he purloined from theFifth Dimensionthat does not exist in our world. He can control things through sheer willpower, but it’s been discovered that he’s easy to prank. If you can convince Mxyzptlk to say his name backwards, he will be sent back to his home for 90s days, unable to visit earth in that time.
