Upcoming 2020 sets to release a number of titles stemming from table top roleplaying roots. We have a lot to look forward to starting as early as January. If you’re looking to take on an icy new biome, explore a dystopian future dealing with unsavory characters as well as cybernetics, or you’d rather take on the art of being a samurai with plenty of supernatural yokai, this year will not disappoint. Monster Hunter World Iceborne launched for console back in September 2019, however PC players are gaining the icy expansion in 2020. The expansion takes players to a frosty new biome, with new monsters to best and a newMaster Rankto earn.
The story of Iceborne follows the research commission investigating an anomaly in the ecosystem, a flock of Legiana migrating toward the horizon. A mysterious monster is now attacking them and this catches the attention of The Handler leading to a new zoneHoarfrost Reachto explore.

10. Wasteland 3

Wasteland 3 takes place in the deserts of the American Southwest in a post-apocalyptic world, where there are plenty of rocky mountains, and bitter harsh winters. You’re led to this region due to the Patriarch of Colorado who needs your help in taking down his own family.
Wasteland 3is influenced by XCOM’s tactical turn-based combat, taking place in a post-apocalyptic Colorado. Players can use ATVs to get around the overworld map, traversing the snow covered terrain. you’re able to also expect an Action Point system for turn-based moves, cover system and Ambush.

Probably the most anticipated new feature of Wasteland 3 is cooperative play. You and a friend can now take on the Wasteland together, each controlling your own squad. you’re able to find others to play with online with as well. 9. Biomutant

A Kung-fu inspired fable, Biomutant brings martial arts and mutant creatures together in this open-world action-RPG. As a plague a starts to destroy the land, the Tree-of-Life starts bleeding death from its roots which results in Tribes starting to divide. Will you help save this perilous land or let it slip into further darkness?
There will be a high amount of customisation available in Biomutant, from the size of your character’s head which affects their intelligence, to choosing their skills and weapons that you gain from taking down certain tribes of animals. It seems everything has it’s purpose, even clothes you choose will protect you from the elements or materials you find around the world can be combined to create weapons. The characters are cute, furry and pretty unique.

8. Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines 2

Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines 2 is an action-RPG set in the city of Seattle years after the events of the prequel. It is also based on the table top universe of the same name. Bloodlines 2 will follow the story of a young vampire after being turned, awakening to a world where various vampire clans are met with political factions, all fighting for the control of the city. As a young vamp, you must learn to hide your existence from humans. Having witnessed attacks on humans who have been turned, you must help the Clans find who is responsible.
The gameplay takes on stealth and first-person combat which includes some supernatural vampire powers. As a Thinblood choose from starting Disciplines that will function as your “Class”, granting you abilities to help you on your journey. Learn to summon bats, use telekinesis or turn into mist.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2is set to release on PC via Paradox Store, Steam, GOG, Epic as well as Playstation 4 and Xbox One sometime later in 2020.
7. Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord

The eagerly anticipated sequel, Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord is a sandbox action-RPG with medieval combat. Set 200 years before the events of Mount & Blade: Warband, Bannerlord 2 will expand upon the original fighting system and the world of Calradia.
Siege fastnesses, create secret criminal empires in the back alleys or charge straight out into the open of glorious battle. Bannerlord will immerse you in medieval warfare as you aim to bring down your rival by battery ram or burning his siege towers to the ground. You can craft your own weapons which will aid you on the battle field. A deep physics based system allows for each weapon to have its own set of attributes, strengths and weaknesses.

6. Final Fantasy 7 Remake

The long awaited Final Fantasy 7 remake not only brings stunning new graphics to the classic, but with new gameplay, combat, mini-games and new bosses. While the look might have received much of an upgrade the story sets to stay true to the original but there will be some new additions. The story follows Cloud Strife, a former Shinra soldier who joins the eco-terrorist group called AVALANCHE, to fight as a mercenary against the Shinra corporation. Shinra have been draining the planet’s life energy, which Cloud fights to stop, but gets caught up in something much more.
Combat will be in real time and the ATB system returns which charges when you use standard attacks, letting your unleash a powerful attack when ready. There is also Classic Mode which allows players to choose moves from a classic FF menu, with ATB instead charging over time. The game has also been split into parts, with this being the first instalment being released in March 2020.
Final Fantasy VII Remakewill release on Playstation 4 on March 3rd 2020.
5. Hollow Knight: Silksong

The sequel to the acclaimed Hollow Knight, Silksong follows the adventures of a new character, the Hornet as she prevails through a new kingdom of Pharloom with similar mapping abilities to Hollow Knight. An interesting addition is the use of a death mechanic, as with Hollow Knight, the Hornet can die but will also leave a cocoon behind. The cocoon contains a full amount of silk which can be used at an opportune moment.
Healing for theHornetinvolves using the silk that she accrues from killing enemies, usingBindto wrap around injuries and help return her to a healthier state. She is also super speedy compared to the Knight when she heals and she can do it in mid-air. But there is balance with this increased rate of healing, using healing powers will consume her entire spool of silk, and if she gets hit while trying heal, the silk will be depleted and the heal rendered useless.
Hollow Knight Silksongwill launch on Windows, Mac, Linux and Nintendo Switch, with more platforms possible in the future. Expected to release date in 2020.

Nioh 2 is the prequel to the demon fighting action-RPG of the same name. Taking place before the original, it is a standalone story, set in the late 1500s of the Sengoku-era in Japan. Players will take up their own customised character who is part Yokai or demon. Taking place in the Dark Realm, there will be plenty of Yokai to fight, offering challenges and testing your samurai abilities.
Take on bosses that are accompanied by their own unique Guardian Spirit, taking different forms. Once defeated you then be able to summon it as your own. Nioh 2 takes on a new, revamped Skill System with freedom to pick a path and set of skills that suit your playstyle. There are also a new weapons and a new game mechanic called the Revenant System. You will be able to summon another player’s character, a Revenant who will act as your companion. There will also be online co-op.
Nioh 2will launch on March 13th 2020 on Playstation 4.
3. Cyberpunk 2077

Enter the sci-fi world of Cyberpunk 2077 where the future is now, and you are hired as a mercenary, taking on some pretty dangerous jobs. Decide how you want to handle quests, whether you wish to use your intellect to solve problems or take a more violent approach.
Cyberpunk 2077 comes from the developers CD Projekt Red who made the fantasy RPG The Witcher 3. The game is based on the table top title from the same universe. Build your character from the ground up, decide on the their look, what class they’ll take on and even take control of the choices they make which will have consequences. In a world where cybernetics exists, you may add implants to upgrade and better suit your needs.
Experience the action-RPG in first person, which provides an im mersive experience when exploring the city’s seedy underbelly. Still not sold? Did I mention they have Keanu Reeves playing as Johnny Silverhand? Expect stunning visuals of this futuristic world.
Cyberpunk 2077releases on April 16th on Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC as well as Stadia. [UPDATE - Will now release on September 17th 2020].

The third instalment in the series, Baldur’s Gate III returns being developed by Larian Studios, the same developer behind the Divinity Original Sin series. BG 3 is based on the 5th Edition of Dungeons & Dragons, the latest pen and paper RPG.
In this entry an ancient evil has come back to Baldur’s Gate with the desire to consume it from the inside. There are plenty of horrors including the mindflayers who take over those who they get close to. It is up to you to determine the fate of Faerun. Baldur’s Gate 3 takes place after the events of 1 and 2, as well as the tabletop campaigns. Although this will reference previous events of the happenings in the Forgotten Realms, there will be new stories with some familiar faces.
Expect multiplayer as previous titles also focused on gathering your party, there will be co-operative multiplayer, to adventure with friends. The developer Larian Studios shared inour interview with them earlier this year, that we can expect 100 hours of gameplay, similar to that of Divinity Original Sin 2, but it will depend on the player.
Baldur’s Gate 3is expected to release sometime in 2020 on PC and Stadia.
1. Elden Ring

The most elusive title on our list also takes our top spot. Elden Ring hasn’t even had any gameplay shown yet, but is already been one of the most anticipated titles ever since it’s announcement earlier this year and sets to beFromSoftware’s biggest title yet. Combining two well-known figures, one synonymous with Dark Souls, Hidetaka Miyazaki, and the other, a writer who has taken the world of fantasy to another level, the author of Song of Fire and Ice/Game of Thrones, G.R.R. Martin.
This open-world action-RPG that allows players to discover lands on foot as well as by mount in third-person. There will be plenty of customisation when it comes to playstyle with weapons choices and even magic. We expect a very Souls experience but at a much grander scale, with more open-world exploration with traveling on horseback between locations.
Elden Ringwill release on Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC, with no release window announced as of yet, but pre-orders state 2020.
