Anticipating the Expansion
The news of this reveal date isn’t exactly surprising as this month marks the one year since thereveal of the Shadow of the Erdtree trailer. It’s also been two years since the initial game Elden Ring released on February 25th, making the date truly one to look out for.
There have also been less substantial rumours that have been fueling the fires for the Tarnished, with the Steam backend listings being recently updated. “Unknown Apps” have surfaced in the change log coming up under the DLC section. This while a small detail was shouted far and wide that something was coming, perhaps that something was Erdtree shaped.

Adding further kindling was the possible leak from a third-party website revealing details of a themed Thrustmaster controller in December 2023. This was also indicated that the controller would launch in tandem with the DLC in February. While we still don’t know the exact release date for the Shadow of the Erdtree, it did set Souls fans into a frenzy about whether this leap year month would haveTorrentleaping into action.
Of course, the page was quickly taken down, which could either be an indication of sharing info way too early as this sometimes happens or mistaken details. Images were also were quickly scrubbed, not really confirming whether the info was true. As always, unless it comes straight from the developer or publisher, it’s to be taken with a pinch of salt.

Elden Ring Updates - Silence is Golden
Since the unveiling of the sole (or souls) image of Shadow of the Ertree, FromSoftware have remain rather quiet on the progress of the expansion. The only confirmed news came from Yasuhiro Kitao being quoted for publications saying the development was “going well”. This was backed by From’s parent company Kadokawa Corporation giving a small update saying their work was “proceeding smoothly”.
Kitao again uttered similar sentiments in a later interview in December 2023 at the PS Partner Awards sharing that the DLC was “still some way off”. Of course, this doesn’t really give a timeline but the developer has never really over-promised, so keeping things close to the belt is more their style. We discussed in a recent video about the overall expected release cycle, and this seems to be right on track with the gameplay trailer. The studio will only give updates when there’s really something to show.
Further interesting information arose just recently about the trademark for the IP of Elden Ring though. Previously the IP was listed both under Bandai Namco and FromSoftware. However, ownership of the franchiseappears to have had a change-up in April 2023 in both the UK and the US where they appear to have been transferred solely to the studio. This means the developer has more freedom over how the game is promoted and the direction for further content. There were also rumours that amobile titleis being worked on with Tencent, but there has been no confirmation of this.
What is in the Expansion?
We have actually covered quite extensively in the past what we expect from the Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. The game has already seen a smaller update with theColosseumDLC which added a PVP arena-based with up to 6 player matches.
What exactly is in the expansion is currently unknown but could potentially have further content such as newweapons, armor, bosses, enemiesand even alocation. A brand new expansion could mean a further area to explore and expect plenty more lore to hit. None of this is confirmed of course and we’ll have to wait for From to give us the details hopefully soon. Since the title focuses on the Erdtree’s shadow, it sounds like there is a lot of death in its wake.
