Cyberpunk 2077 Developer Shares Details About Delay
Originally set to release this April,Cyberpunk 2077wasdelayed to later this year in September, however to quell some rumours behind the delay, CD Projekt Red shared in their forums the reasons behind it, assuring fans. Rumours have been stirring, some saying that the reason behind the delay was that the didn’t run smoothly on the current generation of consoles. Cory Barlog, the creative director at SIE Santa Monica Studio, chimed in expressing that:
EVERY game runs badly until you optimize for the hardware in the final push before gold. GAMES ARE VERY UGLY, FOR A LONG TIME, UNTIL THEY ARE NOT. Traditionally, that is right near the end. This is due to the absolutely fucking bananas level of complexity and moving pieces required to make any game today.

This was responded to by the developer themselves through the voice of a Senior Quest Designer at CD Projekt Red, Philip Weber who shared on the official forum who agreed wholeheartedly with Barlog. He explained that when it comes to the last stretch of development “lots of things are unoptimized because they’re all in flux, changing, and still not finished”.
