Star Wars: The Last Jediwill probably go down in history as the most divisiveStar Warsmovie ever made. Some fans love it and others hate it more than words can describe, going as far as to burn theirStar Warsmerchandise. However, it has been given some of the same criticisms thatThe Empire Strikes Backreceived back in the day, and we all know how high that movie is held in regard to the franchise. The Last Jediwill more than likely see the same fate, as it has a lot to digest while taking some giant left turns. That being said, there are still quite a few things that we cannot explain about Rian Johnson’sThe Last Jedi.

11How did Rey learn the force so quickly?

Okay, so this mystery is still unclear even afterThe Force AwakensandThe Last Jedi. Rey is a nobody and a loner, but suddenly she’s an expert pilot of the Millennium Falcon and then later gets in the head of Kylo Ren, who has hadJedi training. Never mind that she gains the Jedi Mind Trick. But inThe Last Jedi, she pretty much has a few days of training with Luke Skywalker and then becomes a Jedi master in basically 48 hour’s time. Luke was on Dagobah with Yoda for who knows how long before he became able to harness his powers, and even so, he was not as strong as Rey in such a short amount of time.

10What is that weird space leprechaun?

Canto Bighthas seen its fair share of criticism, but one thing that we can’t figure out is the weird little, drunken space leprechaun who pumps golden treats into BB-8 like a slot machine. It’s understandable that those coins end up being used as a weapon later on during the escape scene, but what the heck? Throughout the movie, BB-8 proves that he’s more than just a cute little droid, he kicks ass and rises to the occasion. So, why have a drunken leprechaun molest him when he could’ve figured out a cooler way to take out those guards on his own? It just seems weird and out of place.

9Why is the milk green on Ahch-To?

Now this scene should not have been in the movie at all, and from what we can tell, it’s a throwback to the blue milk that Luke drinks with his aunt and uncle on Tatooine. But why is themilk greenon Ahch-To and why does it come from a giant 4-teeted sea creature? The scene sticks out like a sore thumb inThe Last Jediwhile searing the image of the new sea creature into the memories of millions ofStar Warsfans. This may very well be the biggest unexplained mystery in the movie.

8Why didn’t the First Order destroy the Resistance ships immediately?

So, a big part ofThe Last Jediis based on the idea thatGeneral Huxand his Star Destroyers have to chase General Leia and the escaping Resistance fleet for the duration of the movie. It’s the slowest chase scene ever in aStar Warsmovie, as the bad guys actually just sit and wait for the good guys to run out of gas (yes, for real) while firing at them every once in a while. Hux has squadrons of Starfighters, massive battle cruisers with laser canons, and other untold weaponry… and yet they follow behind the Resistance almost dutifully, only blasting them with one laser blast at a time. Never mind that Hux should have been able to destroy every unarmed escape ship with relative ease.

7Why didn’t Admiral Holdo alert Poe of her initial plan right away?

We get it, Poe is a little sensitive about getting demoted, but couldn’tVice Admiral Holdohave let Poe in on her plans from the start? She’s just trying to secretly evacuate everybody to Crait undetected, but Poe ignites the whole idea of the Canto Bight situation, which in turn endangers the lives of Rose, Finn, and BB-8. That whole scene could have been completely avoided if Holdo had let Poe in on her plan from the beginning. Don’t like Canto Bight, blame Vice Admiral Holdo.

6How does Luke get the blue lightsaber after it’s destroyed?

Kylo Ren and Rey accidentally destroyLuke Skywalker’s blue Lightsaberafter they kill Snoke and battle the Praetorian Guards. So, how does Luke acquire said Lightsaber for his Force projection battle with Kylo Ren? Also, why didn’t Kylo Ren notice that it was the same Lightsaber? It could be that it was just a projection and not the real Luke, therefore not the real Lightsaber as well, but nothing is explicitly explained, it just shows up again 15 minutes after it was destroyed.

5Again, where did Maz get Luke’s Lightsaber?

Technically this mystery belongs with J.J. Abrams andThe Force Awakens, but we’re throwing it in here because it’s still unanswered. She told Han Solo that the story was for a later time. It’s a later time, Han Solo is dead at the hands of his son and the Resistance needs Luke Skywalker, so why not share your side of the story? It’s the least you’re able to do, Maz. Where did you get that Lightsaber and why was it haphazardly thrown in a chest in your basement?

4How did a parking violation get Finn and Rose arrested?

The laws on Canto Bight seem to be a bit harsh after they throw Finn and Rose in jail for a parking violation. It seems like a pretty unnecessary consequence for such a petty crime, but who knows, maybe the casino has a chronic problem with out of control parking and Finn and Rose were just the tip of the iceberg that night. Whatever the case may be, it’s a mystery that we can’t figure out.

3Why was Maz Kanata brought back at all?

Maz Kanata is back and she doesn’t tell us where Luke’s Lightsaber came from, so why is she inThe Last Jediat all? She’s just a plot device here, with Poe and Finn seeking her advice when they need to find a codebreaker to help get the First Order off their trail. But why would Maz be the first person these particular Resistance leaders think of when they’re in such a dire situation. Finn only met her once, for like five minutes. The whole idea of her being in the movie seems pointless.

2What killed Luke?

Luke Force projects himself into battle with the Resistance and takes on his nephew, one-on-one. He is blasted with all of the crazy blasters all at once, but he is a hologram. Kylo Ren slashes at him with his Lightsaber, yet he still lives because he is not really there. So, what really kills Luke? Did he overexert himself in his hologram battle? Was he sick with some kind of Jedi disease? Was it Jedi suicide? The whole scene comes off as weird and mysterious. Hell, he might not even be dead for all we know.
